Winnipeg, Manitoba – December 17, 2014 –The Children’s Wish Foundation, Manitoba & Nunavut Chapter met with the staff of DMT Development Systems Group Inc. (DMT), a global IT solutions provider for the automotive industry at the University of Manitoba, where they presented the Foundation with a cheque for $78,534, the largest corporate donation in the Chapter’s history.
"DMT was unknown to Children’s Wish until they reached out this year to discuss their desire to donate in a very significant way. After meeting with the owners of DMT and viewing their approach to help, we could see something that went beyond them running a traditional internal fund raising campaign," said Maria Toscano, Director of Children’s Wish Foundation, Manitoba & Nunavut Chapter.
The cheque presented to The Children’s Wish Foundation will cover a number of local wishes for children living with high-risk life threatening illnesses. Support of this caliber makes a large difference for these children as The Children’s Wish Foundation receives no government funding.
DMT has developed an internal program called "Payroll for the Needy" where they select one designated charity per year as a part of their humanitarian outreach efforts. With approximately 125 employees, participation is optional but traditionally they receive 100% support. The program is grassroots driven, as staff will make the first step by pledging an amount to be deducted from their payroll, which is then matched by DMT. The single highest donation is matched 200% by the company. DMT’s "Payroll for the Needy" has been running for 12 years supporting charities such as the Salvation Army, Christmas Cheer Board, Winnipeg Harvest, Children's Hospital Foundation, and now the Children’s Wish Foundation.
"It is the caring nature and unbelievable generosity of our staff that makes this campaign possible. I am incredibly proud of our team as they have displayed leadership to help those that desperately need it. In the end, we hope the efforts of our staff will encourage companies to develop similar internal campaigns to help support local charities and to give back to the community in a meaningful way," said Glen Demetrioff, President & CEO of DMT Development Systems Group Inc. "Many people can't believe the results DMT has been achieving over the years, but when a company is united together by a great cause, great things can happen. It's a matter of aligning personal and corporate charitable priorities together - it takes work but the results are clearly worth it."
