WINNIPEG (September 27, 2013) – The Kia Motors America (KMA) on-line resource for news media, recently cited by judges for its “abundance of high quality and up-to-date information, presented in a clean, organized and easily accessible way,” has garnered the top award in the Interactive Media Council, Inc’s annual Interactive Media Awards.
The company’s KiaMedia.com site, designed and created by DMT Development Systems Group Inc., earned 480 out of a possible 500 points from judges to earn a rare Best in Class Award in the public relations category.
Judges assessed entries based on five criteria: design, content, feature functionality, usability and standards compliance. Said one judge: "This website is an incredibly useful resource for media professionals seeking information on Kia Motors America."
“The abundance of high quality and up-to-date information, presented in a clean, organized and easily accessible way, makes this a powerful, award-winning website,” said another judge.
The site offers one-stop shopping for busy reporters and editors, with streamlined access to product and corporate news, photos, product specifications, press kits, videos, and a helpful subscription system that notifies journalists of the latest developments and images as they become available. The system can be customized to deliver users the news they are most interested in following.
The site provides easy access to the corporate Twitter feed as well as an archive of past material. A powerful search tool helps users locate any content on the site. A special section on motorsports highlights Kia’s racing activities while galleries with photos of models, concepts, auto show features and other news with large thumbnail photos make images easy to review and access.
The site was launched in 2012 and a mobile version followed this year.
“Kia Motors America is very much in touch with the needs of the vital media that cover the auto industry. The company works hard to exceed the expectations of media, and has devoted a lot of time and energy to understanding what media need now – and in the future,” explains Glen Demetrioff, president and CEO of DMT. “An IMA Best in Class Award is a fitting tribute to that dedication.”
"Partnering with DMT to build KMA's virtual newsroom was the right decision from start to finish," says James Hope, National Manager, Product Communications. "From inception to completion, the level of creativity DMT brought to the table gave KMA the freedom to design our award-winning site."
Created by the Interactive Media Council, Inc. (IMC), a nonprofit organization of leading web designers, developers, programmers, advertisers and other web-related professionals, the competition is designed to elevate the standards of excellence on the Internet and offer winners a boost in marketing and exposure. IMC serves as the primary sponsor and governing body of the Interactive Media Awards, establishes the judging system and provides the judges for the competition.
DMT is a pioneer in the establishment and evolution of media information sites for the auto industry. Today, most major car companies deploy some version of a unique site for media information. The development of news media information sites complements DMT’s core business of creating centrally-controlled, easily administered information systems designed to share data between car dealers and the companies.
The IMA award is the second major distinction won by a DMT-created project for an automotive client within the past month. Last week, Nissan Europe’s media site, created by DMT, was honoured with the Gold Stevie award for the Best On-line Press Room category of the International Business Awards.
Last year, a media information site created for Hyundai Motor America won a prestigious EPPY award for the Best Automotive Website with under 250,000 unique monthly visitors. The EPPY Awards recognize the best media-affiliated websites across 43 diverse categories and are considered among the most important in an industry based on rapidly changing technology and user expectations.
