WINNIPEG (December 24, 2013) - Staff and management at Winnipeg-based DMT Development Systems Group Inc. have demonstrated once again this year ‘tis better to give than receive’ in the holiday season.
Their joint donation of $60,000 is being directed to the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba to fund two hospital programs – the excursion and music therapy programs – and for Christmas gifts for children at the Children’s Hospital-HSC Winnipeg.
In accepting this donation, Lawrence Prout, President, CEO, Children’s Hospital Foundation, said “DMT’s generosity will enable the Foundation to continue to foster two types of therapy programs that are vital to our hospital and to the healing progress of the 120,000 sick children we serve here each and every year.”
The excursion program has been around since the establishment of the Children’s Hospital. The program takes patients who are able to go out to the zoo or to see Santa and allows them to adopt a sense of normalcy in their daily life. The Music Therapy program uses physical, emotional, mental and social ways to help kids improve their health. By singing, listening, discussing and moving to music, kids work on their motor skills, emotional, social development and more to help achieve treatment goals.
“It is humbling to continue to experience the incredible generosity and caring spirit of our staff each holiday season,” said Glen Demetrioff, President, CEO, of DMT. “So many of us in the company are parents so it is fitting to donate to the Children’s Hospital Foundation given the important work they do in our community to help children and their parents.”
Established in 1971, the Children’s Hospital Foundation’s mandate is to raise and distribute funds to ensure consistent funding of pediatric medical research, equipment and programs at Children’s Hospital of Winnipeg.
